Waikiki teen Daniel Rosier has embarked on a week-long voyage onboard the STS Leeuwin II, setting sail as part of the Leeuwin Ocean Adventure Foundation’s youth explorer voyage.

The 14-year-old took to the water on January 3 and is sailing from Fremantle to Busselton on the adventure of a lifetime.

Taking the helm of a working ship, Daniel will set and furl the sails, climb the masts, work aloft and stand watch while sailing through the night.

Despite having no experience on the water, Daniel said he was excited about the journey.

“The most challenging thing will be getting used to being on the water for so long,” he said.

“I am excited to make new friends, learn new things and I want to build on my leadership and teamwork skills.”

His voyage was supported by Woodside, who funded a 75 per cent of the cost with Rockingham Rotary contributing the remaining 25 per cent.

The ship will arrive in Busselton on January 9.
