Cup brings WA’s best
It was a big weekend on the water for the Secret Harbour Surf Beach Board Riders, as they hosted two events, including the Lindsay Thompson Memorial Cup, on Saturday and the sixth round of club competition on Sunday.
Saturday’s event, which has been hosted for many years in memory of the Gracetown cliff collapse tragedy, involved all of the State’s best longboard clubs.
This year’s edition was won by Cottesloe Longboard Club, with Secret Harbour coming in a close second.
Sunday’s competition saw 110 surfers take to the water where they were greeted by one metre offshore waves and sunny skies.
Shredders on the day included April McPherson, Cooper Perry and Ryan Harvey, who took the open, grom boys and cadet boys categories respectively.
Connor Gaiger also had a fine day as he won the juniors and also recorded the highest wave score, with 17.7 out of 20.
Ella Gibney took first place in the cadet girls, while Shane Drew won the over-40s and Doug Kitchingman came first in the over-50s.
The next competition for the Secret Harbour Surf Beach Board Riders is on Sunday, September 17, with set-up at 7am.
