Cost to find motorplex buyer appropriate
The State Government has said the cost of finding a buyer for the Motorplex in Kwinana is a suitable amount, with more than $113,000 allocated to an agency to help sell the venue.
A tender for the real estate selling services for the long-term lease or sale of the motorplex has allocated $113,120 (estimate) to Jones Lang Lasalle, which is tasked with finding a buyer.
A spokesman for Lands Minister Ben Wyatt said the department had followed the “appropriate whole of government procurement practice” for this service and awarded the contract to the supplier it “determined was most suitable to achieve the best value for money outcome”.
“The department considered the price to be appropriate for the extent of services required, given that the Perth Motorplex is a particularly unique asset,” he said.
Perth Motorplex hosts drag racing, speedway, car shows, stunt shows and motocross events.
JLL director Nicholas Agapitos, given the task of finding a new owner or operator for the site, said the complex, which includes a “long drag strip”, drew substantial crowds of car and motorsport fans.
A sale is conditional on the buyer or operator continuing to host speedway and drag racing because of the strategic importance of these events to motor racing.
Perth Motorplex, on a 63ha site, includes a raceway, drag strip, tiered seating, toilets, food and beverage outlets, and vehicle service areas.
