City gives back to generous volunteers

Cecilia AllenSound Telegraph

The City of Rockingham celebrated Thank a Volunteer Day last Tuesday with an expo and sausage sizzle at the Volunteer Centre at the Rockingham Central Library.

There were 14 volunteer stalls on display, including Baldivis Lions Club, the Autumn Centre, PCYC, Penguin Island Group, Rockingham Lions Club, Greyhound Adoptions and k-9 Rescue Group.

City of Rockingham Mayor Barry Sammels said The City’s Volunteer Centre now had more than 600 registered volunteers who helped out at events and activities across the City.

“Local volunteers support the City in the delivery of many different community events and services,” he said.

“Without the significant and dedicated commitment and generosity of our volunteers, it would not be possible to deliver as many high-quality services to the community.”

The Department of Local Government provided the City with $1000 towards the expo to promote and recognise local volunteer-involving organisations for their activities and to share information with people interested in volunteering opportunities.

“We have 42 registered volunteer-involving organisations which make a big contribution to the community through volunteering activities,” Cr Sammels said.

“We are very fortunate that we have so many people in the region who have the knowledge, the expertise and the commitment to give their time to help others.”

People interested in local volunteering opportunities can contact the Rockingham Volunteer Centre on 9528 8670 or volunteering@rockingham.wa.gov.au.
