Charges laid after thieves target newsagency twice in one night
Just weeks after opening, Wellard Square Gifts and News has been targeted by thieves, broken into twice in one night last month, with a significant amount of property stolen.
In the early hours of Tuesday, February 5, three people allegedly kicked in the front glass door to gain entry. Once inside, it is alleged they stole items ranging from two jewellery stands, cigarettes and cash, and even an AFL team mug.
Detective-Sergeant Jenny Walsh said just hours later, a car driving past the shop saw the broken glass door and soon after, a second burglary occurred where more items were stolen. “We think this was, unfortunately a purely opportunistic crime after these people saw what had already happened,” she said.
Kwinana police Senior Sergeant Anthony Thompson said two people had been charged with aggravated burglary and commit but said another person involved was soon to be charged.
