Century celebrated

Long-term Rockingham resident Olive Winson celebrated her 100th birthday last week in the company of family and friends.

Ms Winson immigrated to Australia with husband Les from the UK in 1970 and has been in Rockingham since then.

She moved to Aegis Aged Care in Shoalwater about four years ago and is described as a “beautiful and caring lady”.

Ms Winson had no children but was joined by five generations of nieces and nephews.

Great-niece Olive Owen said Ms Winson had had many jobs, including a role at a Rolls-Royce office in England.

She’s always happy and bubbly,

“She loves a good joke.”

“Her sister Isobel lived until she was 105.

“Her and Olive used to catch the bus to places together.”

Ms Winson was delighted to receive a letter from Queen Elizabeth II and a visit from one of the home’s carers, dressed as Prince Charming, who delivered her a glass slipper at her birthday bash.

“Live every day as it comes and enjoy it,” she said.

“Each day is a new day.”
