Brumbies’ mixed bag

The Baldivis Brumbies have had a mixed start to their inaugural season in the Peel Football Netball League women’s competition.
After a first-up victory against Dwellingup, the Brumbies could not repeat the success at home at the weekend, falling to Pinjarra 13.1 to 1.5.
The Brumbies appeared to lose their structure under Pinjarra’s pressure in the first quarter but were able to offer stronger competition after quarter-time.
While Pinjarra burst out of the blocks to kick 11 goals in the first quarter to Brumbies’ 0.4, the home side was able to offer strong resistance in the second quarter ensuring a nil-all draw.
While the Brumbies struggled to add to their tally, they conceded just one goal over the second and third quarters.
Brumbies coach Jamie McGillivray said he was impressed with Telisha and Kerrilee Brown who both worked hard in the back line.
McGillivray said he was confident the team, who are largely new to the game, would improve into the season.
“I definitely don’t think that Pinjarra are a 12 goal better team than us,” he said.“I think we’ll overcome those issues and hopefully Pinjarra will see a different team next time they play us.”
McGillivray was expecting a more even contest in round three when the Brumbies take on South Mandurah.
