Bridge club birthday a celebration of vibrant legacy

Rockingham Bridge Club recently celebrated its 38th anniversary, with the day a tribute to the longevity of the club with current and past members attending.

Founder Peg Brady started giving lessons through the local TAFE back in July 1979, with 12 people initially attending.

The club members initially used a small hall adjacent to the library on Kent Street, while the nearest bridge club in the early days was based in Melville.

After the club became established, it relocated to McClarty Road in Shoalwater, with the help of Rockingham council and the Bridge Association of WA.

President Roz Davey said the club had come a long way since setting up 38 years ago.

“Today, 38 years on, it is a vibrant and friendly organisation with over 100 members headed by an efficient and organised administrative body,” she said.

“Lessons, by extremely accomplished teachers, are provided for beginners and for those who wish to further sharpen their skills.”

Lessons are held on Saturday and Monday morning, and Wednesday night.

Bridge is played Monday to Wednesday and Friday from 12.15pm, Tuesday from 6.30pm and Saturday afternoon from 12.45pm.
