Bowlers spare no effort at nationals

The Blind and Vision Impaired Tenpin Bowling Australia National Championships rolled into Rockingham last week, with 21 athletes having the chance to stake their claim as the best in the land.
Five bowlers from the Peel region mixed it up with the best blind and vision-impaired bowlers from across the country, with the championships marking the first occasion Rockingham had hosted the event.
Playing in singles, teams, doubles and trios, bowlers were kept busy at AMF Bowling Rockingham as competitors aged from 22-92 racked up some impressive scores.
For the championships, bowlers were graded into three categories based on their level of vision.
BVIT local liaison Kathy Larsen, whose daughters Cassandra and Jessica Lovett were competing, said the championships were a great chance for people with common disabilities to come together.
The BVIT National Championships are held every two years, with the most recent events held in Brisbane and Sydney.
They started in 2000 and offer competitors the chance to be selected to represent Australia at international events.
