Beach Cup expands to draw visitors in

With just over six weeks until the Rockingham Beach Cup, plans are in place to make the tourism event bigger and better this year.

Organised by the Rotary Club of Palm Beach, 2016, was the inaugural showcase of horse- racing on the beach at Rockingham foreshore.

With tens of thousands of residents and visitors flooding into Rockingham for the main event, a host of other attractions will be offered this year to expand the program. A corporate golf day, cycling criterion, arts festival and street performers have been added to the itinerary to join the gala dinner, in what promises to be a bumper weekend of action.

Organiser Michael McCafferty said the Rockingham Beach Cup had the community in mind.

“What we are trying to do is promote local businesses — there is an opportunity for any business that wants to display down at the festival and take a pop-up stall down on Bell Park,” he said.

“Plans are all in place for the weekend — it is set to be a major feature for Rockingham.”

Premier and Member for Rockingham Mark McGowan said he would be in attendance with his family.

“I expect many thousands more to come this year. I am also really looking forward to the cycling criterion — it will be great to watch,” he said.

“I met with the organisers to offer our support – if we can be of further assistance we will.” General admission tickets to the marque for the Beach Cup are still available. Visit www.rockinghambeachcup.com.au.
