Baldivis boost finals push

Aiden BoyhamSound Telegraph

Baldivis eased past a young Halls Head outfit 19.16 (130) to 6.7 (43) at Baldivis Oval on Saturday afternoon to continue their strong push to the finals.

Meanwhile, the Rockingham Rams were defeated by high-fliers Pinjarra 16.10 (106) to 6.5 (41) at Anniversary Park on Sunday.

Craig Hamersley’s side kept themselves in the top three with a solid four-quarter display against a Halls Head side featuring about seven debutants.

Daniel Kimberley starred for Baldivis as he booted six majors in the win, while Brieghton Shea continued his good form with four goals.

Eddy Dann was his usual busy self as he kicked three goals, while Sam Barndon pushed hard and gave a lot of run from the backline.

“Other than a five or six-minute lapse in the first quarter we were able to run out four quarters of footy and come away from it unscathed with a bit of a percentage boost, so we were pretty happy with it,” Hamersley said.

Baldivis finish the home and away season with a big clash against Mundijong Centrals this Sunday. “There’s a lot on the line for us this weekend — for us, if we win well, we get second but it’s not so much about that,” Hamersley said.

“We just need to win — we’ve been really good with our backs against the wall this year so that’s the message I’ll be pushing to the team.”

Meanwhile, it was a tougher outing for the Rams as they fell by 65 points to top side Pinjarra.

Rams coach Scott Franklin remained upbeat despite the loss, praising his side’s tackling pressure and contested footy.

Zayne Selkirk kicked two goals, while Steven Kenny and Travis Naughton also put in solid shifts.

Franklin also praised Riley Allison, who matched up on former Carlton player Rohan Kerr.

While Rockingham’s league team finishes its season away to Halls Head on Sunday, the Rams colts have a chance to finish third and make the finals in September.
