The Department of Fire and Emergency Services has issued a warning after three fires in the Baldivis area were deliberately lit recently.

DFES superintendent for the Metropolitan South Coastal region Paul Heal said members of the Baldivis Volunteer Fire and Emergency Service brigade had attended six fires in Baldivis during the Australia Day long weekend, three of which had been deliberately lit.

Three scrub fires, one on Campolina Avenue on January 25, and two on Baldivis Road the next day, were determined to have been deliberately lit, and WA Police are investigating.

“Arson destroys lives and property,” Supt Heal said. “Just one moment of reckless fire-lighting behaviour could destroy human and animal life, homes, livelihoods and habitats.

“DFES works closely with WA Police and Parks and Wildlife to identify and catch arsonists to prevent them doing further damage. We encourage anyone who sees anything suspicious to report it to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.”
