Anytime Fitness in Baldivis is taking it one step at a time in its support of suicide prevention charity R U OK?

The gym, its members and participants from the community are taking part in the annual Tread As One fundraising challenge this Friday and Saturday, with at least one treadmill running for a full 24-hours.

The event has rallied support in the likes of Baldivis MLA Reece Whitby, Fremantle AFLW player Kiara Bowers and local businesses the Bike Place and Shelford Constructions.

Anytime Fitness Baldivis owner Hayley Edwards said they had taken part in the event for the past three years, and called on members of the community to complete a treadmill challenge.

“Participants receive donations for every 15-minute slot they complete on the treadmill and the event brings people together to support each other, support suicide prevention and let the community know its OK to talk about the hard stuff,” she said.

Four members of the Bike Place team have committed to a 12-hour stint undertaking a virtual climb up Mt Everest, while the Shelford Constructions team has raised more than any business group in Australia in their quest to keep the treadmill rolling continuously for 24 hours.

“We have a lot of local business support and we are currently on top of the leader board for donations across all of Anytime Fitness Clubs Australia-wide and we want to win,” Ms Edwards said.

The gym hopes to raise more than $10,000, and at the time of going to print had raised more than $8200. The event at Anytime Fitness Baldivis, Level 1 52 Goulburn Road is open to all and costs $15 per participant.
