GIG

Michael Triscari

Rustico Tapas and Bar

2pm to 5pm on Sunday, May 11

When Michael Triscari started gigging as a teenager, Rustico Tapas and Bar was one of the first places he played.

The 20-year-old will return to the eatery on Sunday to deliver his new single.

“I haven’t played there for ages, I’m really excited,” he said.

The past few years have been busy for Triscari, who has released an EP, moved to Margaret River and is preparing his debut album.

He said working as a full-time musician was “a dream”.

“I’m not complaining,” he laughed.

“It was all I was ever going to do.”

Triscari said he inherited his musical streak from his mother, an artist and music teacher.

He started singing at age 10 and writing songs at 11.

Triscari said his music could be described as “organic roots with an oceanic vibe”.

“It’s got a real surfie feel to it, it’s very cruisy,” he said.

“It’s folk music, I guess, pretty non-fictional story telling about things I see and things I do.”

Triscari’s Rustico gig will be a blend of covers and original tunes and feature the single Black Sheep, which was recently released on YouTube.

“The covers I play are classic songs that everyone knows but in my own style,” he said.

“You might not recognise them until you hear the melody.”
