Rams lose to rivals
Rockingham Rams suffered another gut-wrenching defeat at the weekend, going down by almost 100 points to rivals Baldivis Brumbies.
The Rams scrambled to a dismal 32 points in Round 10 of the Alcoa Peel Football League after being held goalless by the Brumbies in the second quarter, and only managing two goals and a point in the second half.
The Brumbies came out on top 19.12 (126) to the Rams 4.8 (32), with the winners having three players booting multiple goals.
Rams coach Craig Otto said it had been a tough month for the Rams, who continued to struggle with late changes to the side.
“We are making a lot of changes week in and week out,” he said.
“From the win we had against Halls Head, we lost our captain and vice-captain, Peter Mcgennisken and Steve Kenny.
“The two colts boys who played very well against Halls Head, Hayden Matthews and Kyle Hinchcliffe, were picked for Peel Thunder, and then we made some changes due to injuries.
“So all up we made seven changes, which is what has been happening the last four or five weeks.
“We just haven’t been able to get a settled side.”
Otto said a positive of the day was watching the young colts players step up.
“The two better players on the day were colts players again, Jayden Treadwell and Sean Norman.
“Another colt who played very well was Kevin Smith, so there are a lot of young guys who are playing really well,” he said.
Otto said the team was “sort of all over the place” at the moment, but he had hope for the side yet.
“The saying goes, short-term pain for long-term gain,” he said.
“With any luck we will start getting some senior players back after the bye.”
The Rams will now have a chance for rest and rejuvenate as the PFL has a bye this weekend.
