Free workouts in the park

Rockingham City Council has installed three sets of outdoor fitness equipment in i t s City Park at a cost of $30,000.

The equipment is located at three different points in the park at 250m intervals and each point has two pieces of gym equipment.

The equipment comprises a stepper, butterfly press, abs cruncher/chin-ups bar, crosstrainer, cycle seat and shoulder press.

Officially launching the new equipment, Rockingham Mayor Barry Sammels said it represented the council’s commitment to health and wellbeing.

‘‘Council decided to install the equipment after suggestions from various community groups including the Junior Council, the Active Ageing Reference Group and through theDrawthe Line for a Healthy Rockingham project,’’ he said.

‘‘This is really important for the health and wellbeing of our residents.

‘‘There is no cost to join — it is free equipment that all ages can have access, too.

‘‘For those who can’t afford gym membership, this is a great alternative.’’

The mayor said that it was a fun way to get fit and also gave people the chance to meet others while using the equipment.

‘‘In conjunction with the launch, Body Prep will be running three personal training essions per week for the next six weeks to instruct people on how to use the equipment,’’ he said.
