UGSFL 2025: Wagin cap terrific season with reserves premiership after outlasting physical Williams outfit

A powerful seven-goal second half lifted Wagin to premiership success in the Upper Great Southern Football League reserves competition, beating Williams by 28 points in Sunday’s grand final. The Bulldogs were eliminated in last year’s preliminary final but capped a terrific season with grand final glory at Quartermaine Oval in a physical contest. A win over minor premiers Narrogin in the second semi-final had the Bulldogs full of confidence going into the decider, and they kicked the first two goals of the game. The Cats broke through in the second term to trim the deficit to eight points but the Bulldogs had the answers in the last half. Dominating through the middle of the ground, the Bulldogs had plenty of forward entries and booted three goals in the third quarter to have one hand on the premiership medallions. In a high-scoring final term, the Cats booted three majors but their comeback was met with fierce opposition from the Bulldogs, who managed four majors at the other end to seal the 9.7 (61) to 5.3 (33) triumph. Jordan Wallam was on fire in the front half, kicking three goals in a lively display, while Raymond Shaw added two. The Bulldogs’ skill was on display from the outset as James Mead, Alistair Williams, Dylan Boyce, Gavin Farmer, Aaron Farmer and Langford Williams propelled the side to victory. Mead claimed the Greg O’Neill Medal as best-afield in the grand final, having huge influence through the midfield. Cats’ Jack Leusciatti landed two majors for his side with teammates Gary Fisher, Liam Basire, David Medlen, Russell Cowcher, Thomas Klug and Matthew Gillett playing well. Medlen got the South Fremantle Football Club award for his efforts in defence.
