UGSFL 2025: Narrogin’s winning ways continue, Kukerin-Dumbleyung make it three straight and Williams escape

A red-hot Narrogin outfit moved a game and percentage clear on top of the Upper Great Southern Football League ladder after beating title rivals Wickepin on Saturday. The Hawks’ eighth consecutive win came after a five goal final term helped keep the Warriors at bay in Wickepin in a brutal round nine encounter. The Warriors won the previous encounter between the two sides in round one but the Hawks have been undefeated since, and finished 18.11 (119) to 16.3 (99) winners in the return clash. The home side had a terrific start with five first-term goals but Hawks spearheads Will Wiggett and Malachi Bolton kept their side in touch after converting free kicks. The Hawks came out swinging in the second quarter, with four majors to the Warriors two to put them three points ahead at half time. Both teams were up for the fight and tempers spilled over multiple times, with the two premiership contenders refusing to back down. The pressure mounted in a high-scoring third term with Warriors and Hawks both kicking six goals. But the visitors upped the ante in the final term with five goals to three to seal the result. Warriors’ Kayle Kirby was the star in a losing affair, booting eight goals while the opposition’s Bolton was also superb with seven majors. Alongside Kirby, Sam Fortini, Dion Anthony, David Roche, Fraser Wittwer and Flynn Spark were strong contributors for the Warriors . Tom Kilpatrick and Wiggett both chipped in with three vital goals in the Hawks’ win. Bolton and Kilpatrick were highly influential while teammates Declan Phillips, Declin Mumby, Gregor Taylor and Fraser Goode helped maintain the Hawks hot streak. In the other fixtures, Kukerin-Dumbleyung made it three wins in a row after knocking off Boddington by 22 points at Stubbs Park. The result was staggering given the Cougars kicked 22 behinds, 12 of which came in the opening term. The Cougars led by four points at quarter-time despite not kicking a goal, but they added four majors in the second. Both teams kicked three goals each in the second half but the home side proved too good, 7.22 (64) to 6.6 (42). Peter Gioulis and Harrison Searle booted two goals each for the Cougars who were best served by Jonty Robinson, Will Liston, Cambell Johnston, Jye Depane, Konnah Holmes and Charlie Keast. The Eagles were well led by Ben Sherry, Samuel Cooper, Blake Reynolds, Lewis Parsons and Matt Giumelli while Lloyd Padwick kicked three goals. Brookton-Pingelly were in control for much of the day in their fixture against Katanning Wanderers, but the Tigers lifted late to win by four points. Despite six goals from Finn O’Reilly, the Panthers fell short 11.10 (76) to 11.14 (80) at Quartermaine Oval. Toby Quartermaine, Zane Sutherland, Alby Kowald, Caleb Keley and William Roe starred for the Tigers while Joshua McMahon finished with three vital goals. O’Reilly was the stand-out for the Panthers and was joined in the best by Shannon Fernando (four goals), Ryley Conlan, Jacob Sounness, Sean Fletcher and Liam Beacom. Williams remain well and truly in the finals hunt after their fourth win of the season, getting the better of Wagin by 11 points in Williams. The Bulldogs had Jordan Wallam bag five goals but the Cats clung on, 11.9 (75) to 9.10 (64). The Cats kicked four goals to two in the final term after trailing at half-time. Luca Gangemi, Charles Cowcher, Brett Lavender, Jackson Ryan (two goals), Nick Panizza and Noah Logie were terrific for the winners and Gerard Medlen finished with four goals. The Bulldogs were best served by Alfred Finlayson, Kade Prowse, Lucas Whitaker, Nick Menegola, Nicholas McMahon and Riley Hill.
