Commodine bushfire: Blaze sparked in paddock extinguished by firefighters on Monday evening, threat reduced

A paddock fire in Commodine, between Wickepin and Cuballing, was successfully extinguished on Monday evening.

The fire was initially reported at 9.57am on Monday morning near Strahans Road and Cuballing East Road between the shires of Cuballing and Wickepin.

Volunteer farming units were on the scene almost immediately, with the Cuballing, Narrogin, Minigin and Popanyinning bush fire brigades following shortly.

The 20 units controlled the flames within an hour, and managed to contain the blaze by 12.24pm.

A Department of Fire and Emergency Services spokeswoman said the fire was extinguished by 5.46pm.

DFES released a bushfire advice alert at 10.47am on Monday for people in an area bounded by Leeson Road to the north, Rose Road to the east, Cuballing East Road to the south, and Strahan Road to the west in parts of Commodine and Wickepin, in the shires of Cuballing and Wickepin.

The alert was downgraded to a reduced threat at 9.28am on Tuesday morning.

The fire posed no threat to lives or homes.

The Shire of Cuballing is managing the fire and firefighters are monitoring the situation.

The advice was launched only 10 minutes after one for a paddock bushfire in Varley, in the Shire of Lake Grace.
