Boddington has proudly stamped itself on the map with the completion of a 24m-long sign along its Albany Highway entrance.

Shire of Boddington acting chief executive Graham Stanley said the sign would serve as an entry statement to engage people travelling to and from Perth.

“Most people don’t even realise that they’re driving through the Shire of Boddington; that corner is basically the turn-off on the road that leads them into Perth,” Mr Stanley said.

“The council wanted to put an entry statement there to attract people’s attention and help them find all the wonderful things at Boddington.”

The entry statement’s 2m-high steel lettering was created by local steel fabricator Brendan Roache, the owner of Integral Steel.

Mr Roache said creating the letters took eight to 10 weeks, however discussions for the sign started in late 2019.

“It was Chris Littlemore, the chief executive at the time, who designed the lettering,” he said.

“I had some discussion with Chris regarding the size and the font but my job as a fabricator was to fabricate and install it.

“It was everything that I hoped it would be. It was exactly how the drawings made it look to be and I’m very happy with it.”

The sign is part of a push from the Shire to boost the town’s public profile, coming on the heels of last year’s Boddington Sculpture Competition and last week’s official opening of Hotham Park.

Shire president Garry Ventris said they were trying to get new people to stop in Boddington.

“A big sign there, a big entrance will get people to use Boddington,” Mr Ventris said.

“It goes well with the park now, the new Hotham Park. That sign hits you and then you get into Boddington and see that great new adventure playground.”
