Firefighters battle blaze in Spalding unit, cause being investigated by police

A unit in Spalding was destroyed by fire on Monday night and is being treated as suspicious.

A triple-zero caller reported the blaze on Sullivan Court to authorities about 7.50pm on Monday. Five appliances from Geraldton, volunteer fire and rescue and career firefighters were sent to the scene.

The fire was contained and controlled by 8.26pm.

The property is currently vacant and was “extensively damaged” by the fire, a WA Police spokesperson said.

“The cause of the fire is being treated as suspicious at this time and arson squad officers will be attending to conduct a fire scene examination today (June 3),” the spokesperson said.
