The WA Local Government Association has urged residents to consider putting their hand up, noting that councils work best when they reflect the diversity of their communities.
WALGA president Karen Chappel said serving on a council was a chance to give back.
“As somebody who has served my community for more than 20 years, I encourage anyone who wants to make a difference to stand for nomination or ensure they vote in the upcoming local government elections in October,” she said.
“Elected members in local government have a critical role in representing and delivering for grassroots communities right across Western Australia.
“If you’re considering standing for council, I encourage you to take that step. It’s a chance to serve, to lead and to make a real difference.”
