A shark advice warning has been issued for Warren Beach near Windy Harbour this afternoon following reports of a whale carcass.

Parks and Wildlife Service officers from the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions reported the carcass near the beach at 3:42pm.

Officers have warned the decomposing carcass will act as an “attractant” which could lead to sharks coming closer to shore.

Fisheries officers from the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development are monitoring the situation and providing advice to relevant authorities, as the remote location of the carcass and the poor weather has made efforts to remove the carcass difficult.

Locals are being urged to adhere to beach closures and stay informed on the latest updates using the SharkSmart website, SharkSmart WA app or Surf Life Saving WA’s Twitter.
