Art blazes a new trail to Nannup

The Nannup Art Trail will officially open this Friday, showcasing businesses and artists across eight different venues, all within walking distance of each other.

The exbibits include sculptures in the Holberry House gardens, a variety of domestic art at Forest Hemp, Nannup’s Soap Shop as well as exhibitions at Nannup Arts Inc’s Supper Gallery, Melo Velo Cafe and Tiger Valley Gallery and Giftware.

Artist Leanne White will hold an exhibition at her gallery, while John and Marijke Tromp and Anki Wickison will open their home studios and gardens to the public.

“The most exciting thing is how it has brought the community together and how it’s continuing on all the buzz from the Flower and Garden Festival,” organiser Miranda Free said.

“In contrast to other open studio events or art trails, you can walk to every venue, so it makes it a wonderful day out.

“I would encourage people to come and visit our little town, everyone loves it when they come here.”

As well as the exhibitions, the trail will feature buskers throughout the town.

It is the first time the event has been run and Ms Free said the trail was originally supposed to be a part of the Southern Art and Craft Trail, which was cancelled.

“I’d been down to Albany to get all the information for everybody and to act as coordinator,” she said.

“That was subsequently cancelled and so I decided that we have this interest, so why don’t we go ahead and arrange a meeting with locals to see if we could get something happening.”

“A group of locals all said yes, this would be great, let’s go ahead and that’s how it all happened.”

Nannup Art Trail runs from September 18 until October 4.
