It was a last-minute thought: “Do I get out of the car and buy a Lotto ticket?”

Thankfully, the Mandurah shopper did — and it changed her life.

Having just packed her shopping in the car, she hopped out of the driver’s seat and went into Newsxpress Halls Head to buy a Slikpik 18 Powerball ticket.

Later, she checked the ticket — finding to her great surprise that she had won $20 million.

She then spent the rest of the night regularly waking to check it wasn’t all a dream.

“I kept waking up in the night thinking I had dreamt it, checked my numbers again and went through the same disbelief,” the winner , aged in her 60s, said.

“My eyes were blurry from staring at the ticket so much.”

The woman is looking forward to buying her own home — with chickens — and giving to her favourite charities.

“I can finally purchase my own home for the first time in my life,” she said.

“I’ve always dreamt of having a house with a big garden, loads of fruit trees, a veggie patch and chooks!

“And over the years I’ve done lots of volunteering and fostering for dogs’ refuges around Western Australia.

“Now with this prize I can make a real difference.”

Lotterywest spokeswoman Zoe Wender said the six-week jackpot run that resulted in the $20 million Powerball win raised more than $15 million for WA community groups.

“It’s wonderful to hear that this player can support some causes close to her heart with her prize money, just as Lotterywest supports hundreds of initiatives across the State each year,” she said.
