A Perth great-grandfather is looking to upgrade his usual fish and chips order to a lobster feast after winning big on a $1 million Millionaire Medley.
The 84-year-old from Caversham has already decided to share his cool mil equally with his two daughters, who joined him in the Winners Room to celebrate.
“We will go and have lunch to celebrate after this. Fish and chips is my favourite treat, but I’ll order lobster this time!” he rejoiced.
Apart from a new car, the retiree says his lifestyle won’t change very much, putting the money towards helping his family get on the property ladder instead.
“I like where I live and my family is close by, so I won’t be moving, it is more important to me to be able to help my daughters,” he said.
The winner’s eldest daughter said the unexpected financial boost would go towards buying her first home.
“I’m a support worker and have been renting for 20 years, so it will be great to be able to buy my own place,” she said.
Discovering he was a millionaire took the winner two days since the long-term player couldn’t quite believe his luck.
He continued: “I first checked the ticket at one retailer’s machine, but I still didn’t quite believe it. The next day I went to Caversham Newsagency and Lotteries, where I’ve bought my lotto tickets since they opened and the owner told me with a big grin that I’d won.”
Lotterywest spokesperson Jennie Fitzhardinge said it was always heartwarming to find out the winner and retailer know one another.
“Going to the same retailer and getting to know the staff is part of the pleasure of playing Lotterywest games for many players,” Ms Fitzhardinge said.
“We know that the retailers are almost as happy to sell a winning ticket as players are to have the winning ticket!”
Lotto hopefuls in WA can chance their luck this week, with $1 million up for grabs in Friday’s Millionaire Medley.
