Cold Case Serious Crime Squad detectives have charged two men as a result of their investigation into an alleged historic sexual assault in Esperance.

A Goldfields-Esperance police district Facebook page said during the alleged assault in the early hours on June, 10, 2006, one of the men physically restrained the 21-year-old victim, while the other man sexually assaulted her at an Esperance residence.

Cold Case detectives reinvestigated the offence and after additional forensic testing in March this year, detectives travelled to the Goldfields-Esperance district.

On Tuesday last week detectives arrested and charged two men.

A 73-year-old man from Esperance and a 58-year-old man from Kendenup were charged with aggravated sexual penetration without consent.
