LATEST COVID-19 DEVELOPMENTS:

* Western Australia will reopen its borders to NSW and Queensland from Monday but travellers will still be required to self-isolate for 14 days and get a COVID-19 test.

* NSW's five-day streak without a locally-acquired COVID-19 case has also convinced Victorian authorities to reopen the border to almost all of Sydney.

* The Victorian government has struck a deal to accept 330 Tasmanians stranded overseas into their hotel quarantine program. In return 1500 harvest workers from the Pacific Islands will quarantine in Tasmania before going to work on Victorian farms.

* However farmers say the deal for falls a long way short of fixing the sector's labour shortages.

* The Australian Olympic Committee is pushing ahead with planning for the Tokyo Games despite a bombshell report the event will be cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic. It's been reported the Japan government will cancel the Games due to start in July and focus on staging it in 2032, when Brisbane hopes to host the event.

* Rising Spanish star Paula Badosa has become the first Australian Open player to announce she has tested positive for COVID-19 ahead of the season's first grand slam.

AUSTRALIAN CORONAVIRUS NUMBERS:

* There were seven new virus cases recorded in Australia on Thursday: three in Queensland, two in Western Australia and one each in NSW and Victoria. All were diagnosed in hotel quarantine.

* The national death toll is 909: Victoria 820, NSW 56, Tasmania 13, WA 9, Queensland 6, SA 4, ACT 3. (Two Queensland residents who died in NSW have been included in the official tolls of both states).

GLOBAL CORONAVIRUS NUMBERS:

* Cases: at least 97,492,000

* Deaths: at least 2,089,000

* Recovered: at least 53,733,000.
