‘Guns in my face’: Couple shaken after being held at gunpoint during home invasion

A couple have described the terrifying moment two men held them at gunpoint during a home invasion in Melbourne’s southeast.
Police say two men pulled up to a home on Aintree Close in Clyde North about 2.20am on Friday, January 23 in a maroon sedan.
The men walked around the corner to Yellowstone Ave, where they found a garage door slightly open and gained access.

Resident Annie-Maureen, 59, said her husband Rodney, 58, was unable to sleep that night and went to the garage for a cigarette, opening the door slightly to let the smoke out.

The unknown men, dressed in black hoodies and face coverings, confronted Rodney with a firearm and demanded his keys.
When Rodney refused, the pair assaulted him, leaving him lying unconscious on the floor.

The two men walked upstairs to the bedroom where Annie-Maureen was asleep and threatened her at gunpoint.
“I was woken up with the lights on and with two guns in my face,” she said.
The pair demanded she pass over the car keys but quickly “bolted” down the stairs again.
“They found the spare key downstairs near the front door,” Annie-Maureen said.

Police said the men ran off with Rodney’s wallet and a garage fob but were unable to steal the car as Annie-Maureen had fitted it with a Club lock.
She hoped the security measure would mean the men “take longer to break into the car and take it”.
The offenders fled in the maroon car towards Patterson Rd.
Rodney was transported to hospital with minor injuries, while Annie-Maureen was not injured in the incident.

Police are searching for the two men believed to be involved in the incident.
Detective Senior Constable Candice Taylor said the home invasion was “terrifying” for the couple.
“This aggravated home invasion would have been absolutely terrifying for the residents of the property,” she said.
“No one expects to be threatened with a weapon or to wake up with two violent males making demands in your house at 2am.
“We are urging anyone with information, or who might recognise these males, to come forward and speak to police.”

The first offender is believed to be caucasian in appearance, aged in his early 20s, about 180cm tall with a tanned complexion and blue eyes.
He was wearing a black hoodie and a black surgical mask at the time of the incident.
The second offender is believed to be caucasian in appearance, aged in his late teens, and about 180cm tall with blue eyes.
He was last seen wearing a black hoodie and a ski mask.
