Tragedy strikes the Great Southern again as 73-year-old woman dies in crash near Pingrup

A 73-year-old woman was killed in a crash near Pingrup yesterday.

Police say the woman was travelling north on Chester Pass Road in a grey Nissan X-Trail when the car left the road and crashed into a tree.

The crash happened near the intersection of Gillis Road, south-west of the Pingrup townsite.

A 78-year-old man, who was also an occupant of the X-Trail, was taken to Katanning Hospital with serious injuries.

Chester Pass Road was closed in both directions for several hours yesterday as Major Crash officers examined the scene.

Their investigation is ongoing.

Yesterday’s fatal crash takes the Great Southern’s road toll to 11 for the first three months of 2021.

That equals the region’s road toll for the entirety of 2020.
