Strong community participation in Tambellup for National Disability Insurance Agency information sessions

The National Disability Insurance Agency delivered two information days in Tambellup last week, encouraging the community to connect with local service providers and learn more about the scheme.
The agency worked with Gorenang Moortabiin Aboriginal Corporation to deliver two information days on May 27 and 28 at Lynthia’s Place in Tambellup, with community members gathering to learn more about the agency’s role in the National Disability Insurance Scheme, and the services available.
NDIA WA regional manager Barb Lundgren said the agency’s service delivery team worked with more than 10 local community organisations to deliver the information days.
She said the team saw a “great turnout” from the community over the two days.

“Since we started holding these events in the community in October 2024, the Katanning region has seen a notable increase in NDIS access among First Nations and culturally and linguistically diverse participants,” she said.
“The National Disability Insurance Agency is committed to delivering culturally safe and equitable access to the NDIS for all eligible people with disability, regardless of where they live.”
She said the main aim of the information days was to help “break down barriers” to information and access to the NDIS in regional communities.
“These community events provide important information on how the NDIS can support people with disability, as well as their families, carers and networks,” Ms Lundgren said.
“The National Disability Insurance Agency is improving how it provides people living in remote and regional areas access to all elements of the NDIS, including information and education; community connection; access to the scheme; planning for tailored support; connection to service providers; and reviews and changes.”

Similar events will be held across the region over the winter, with Meet The NDIA Staff days at Kojonup’s The Kodja Place on June 10, 17, and 24, and a community connection day being held at the Wagin Town Hall on June 25.
Ms Lundgren said she encouraged anyone in the community or region to come along to the free events with any questions or comments for the agency about how their initiatives were working for them.
