After three years of hikes, camps and learning bushcraft, a young Katanning cub scout was “pumped” to receive the organisation’s highest award.

Jocelyne-Rose Groube, 11, was presented with the grey wolf award last month, a gong considered the pinnacle of cub scout achievement.

Surrounded by family and her fellow cub scouts at Katanning Miniature Railway Park, Jocelyne-Rose was handed the certificate on August 30.

Her mother Caroline Power said she managed to qualify for the award the day before her 11th birthday but has already got her sights set on the next milestone.

“She first joined in 2023 and was invested on birthday actually and then ticked the boxes the day before her birthday three years later,” she said.

“She now wants to go for her peak award which will take another two to three years, which is more involvement in getting higher badges, so higher levels, higher stages.”

To earn the prestigious award, Jocelyne-Rose had to learn bushcraft, bushwalking, camping, and navigation skills, how to read maps, knowledge about the stars and much more.

“She’s had to do many hikes and learn about bushland and plants and what equipment you need on a camp, how to light and cook on fires; all sorts of things,” Ms Power said.

“She was super-excited and super-pumped to get it.”

The certificate presentation was followed by a barbecue, cake and riding the train at the mini railway.

Jocelyne-Rose’s name is now among those on the honour board of Katanning cub scouts who have reached the achievement.
