IN PICTURES: Big crowd as Great Southern Soiree raise nearly $10k for Great Southern Cricket Association

The Great Southern Soiree raised thousands for the local cricket association, drawing hundreds of fun-lovers from across the region for a night of drinks, dancing and socialising. Adorned in their finest cocktail attire, 210 ball-goers flocked to Broomehill Town Hall on October 18 and helped raise nearly $10,000 for the Great Southern Cricket Association. The money will be shared evenly between the association and the six cricket clubs under it: Australs North, Broomehill, Katanning Wanderers, Kendenup, Kojonup and Tambellup. GSCA president Jack Batchelor said the night was fantastic and that everyone was in “extremely high spirits”. Mr Batchelor said aside from fundraising for the cricket association, it was a great social opportunity for the community. “There has been a lack of large social events and opportunities to socialise in farming areas of Great Southern in recent times, particularly around the Broomehill, Katanning and Kojonup area,” he said. “Somebody needed to step up and get the social ball rolling in our area again. “With the Broomehill pub being shut for over six years now, the social opportunities are limited, despite a hunger for socialising from the community, so Broomehill was the perfect central location for the event.”
