Greater Geraldton election results: Shane Van Styn, Natasha Colliver, Tim Miles and Serena Giudice voted in
The make-up of the new Greater Geraldton council has been confirmed, with Shane Van Styn, Natasha Colliver, Tim Milnes and Serena Giudice elected.
Former mayor Shane Van Styn will return to council after a two-year break after surging ahead in the poll, securing 34 per cent of the votes.
Ms Colliver, the deputy mayor for the past two years, had the second highest number of votes, with 13 per cent.
They will be joined by two council newcomers — former Liberal candidate for the 2025 State election Mr Milnes (11.6 per cent) and Ms Giudice (8.6 per cent).
Thirteen candidates nominated for four open positions on council, including existing councillors Victor Tanti, Steve Cooper and Aaron Horsman who were not re-elected.
City of Greater Geraldton mayor Jerry Clune congratulated the four successful candidates, while thanking Cr Tanti, Cr Cooper and Cr Horsman for their contributions and service to council — 12 years, four years and two years respectively — as well as the other candidates for their interest in local government.
“I look forward to our new council coming together in unity, continuing our advocacy of the Greater Geraldton community as well as achieving the outcomes in our Strategic Community Plan 2025-2035,” Mr Clune said.
A special council meeting will be held on Tuesday at 4pm to swear in the newly elected councillors and for council to elect a deputy mayor. Cr Colliver has previously indicated she intends to put her hand up again for that role.
In total, 9450 community members voted in the local government elections, which is a record number for a non-mayoral election.
The turnout equates to 31.6 per cent of eligible voters having their say.
Under local government reforms, the size of the Greater Geraldton council will now reduced from 11 councillors to nine, including the mayor.
