Geraldton Softball Association round 14: Cooper Jefferies stars as Suiside secures minor premiership

Suiside’s men’s division one side set the tone for round 14 in emphatic fashion, cementing top spot on the ladder with two dominant wins over Rams and Batavia Blaze. Cooper Jefferies was outstanding across the double header, pitching both games with control and confidence while also contributing strongly with the bat. His presence on the mound laid the platform, but he was well supported by Blade Jefferies and Jaxen Meharry, who continued their consistent form with timely hitting and calm, reliable work in the field as Suiside cruised to an 8–1 win over Rams before backing it up with a 13–2 victory against Blaze. Batavia Blaze responded later in the round with a composed 9-1 win over Martians. Blaze struck early, pushing two runs across in the opening inning to apply immediate pressure before Martians answered with a run of their own. The game then settled into a tight contest through the middle innings, with Jack Etherton pitching confidently to new recruit Jake Johns to keep Martians in check. The decisive moment came when Blaze rallied with two outs, piling on six runs to break the game open. Mason Heta provided the highlight with an infield home run, while Jamie Rodenburg drove in two with a sharp ball up the middle, sealing a convincing Blaze victory. In women’s division one, Pi’s Panthers claimed a 13–2 win over Suiside, though there were positives for Suiside with Jarmanda Jones and Maddison Jefferies continuing their strong seasons, both pulling in uncatchable grabs in the field and scoring their side’s only runs. Marlins maintained their push near the top of the ladder with a convincing 12–5 win over Pi’s, while Rams were too strong for Martians, winning 11–3. Men’s division two produced a tight contest with Martians defeating Midwest Marlins 7–2 despite being out hit. Patience at the plate and clutch hitting proved decisive, while Suiside also picked up a valuable 12–9 win over Rams White. Rams Blue were dominant against Pi’s Panthers, running away with a 19–5 result. In men’s division three, Blaze controlled proceedings from the outset to record a 13–1 mercy rule win over Gunduwa, although the scoreline did not fully reflect the effort of the undermanned Gunduwa side, who took the field with just eight players.. Martians also enjoyed success in the grade, defeating Marlins 7–2. Women’s division two saw Marlins overpower Suiside 19–8 in a high scoring clash, while Gunduwa edged Blaze 12–11 in one of the closest games of the round. Cassie Green scored the winning run with a daring steal of home, capping off a strong all round performance. Marlins also had a big round, overpowering Suiside 19–8. In division three women, Martians held on in a thriller to defeat Rams White 18–17, and Pi’s Panthers proved too strong for Rams Blue, winning 24–10.
