Geraldton Softball Association: Finalists continue jostling for last few places in grand final line-ups

The Geraldton Softball Association finals series continues this weekend with preliminary finals across all senior grades, as teams battle for places in next week’s grand finals. In women’s division one on Saturday, Marlins will take on Martians with the winner earning the right to meet Rams in the grand final. Martians enter the contest confident after their impressive 9–5 elimination final win over PI’s Panthers. The side showed composure under pressure, breaking open a tight game with a four-run sixth dig. Pam Micke’s reliability was on show as one of the team’s most rounded performers, combining strong hitting with dependable field work. Tamara Kuipers also played a pivotal role, pitching strongly while adding two singles and three catches. She has been a key figure all season and will carry much of the responsibility on the mound. Marlins will be determined to bounce back after their narrow 6–4 loss to Rams in the qualifying semifinal. Despite the defeat, Marlins out-hit Rams 11–7, highlighting the strength of their batting. Taryn Purcell was outstanding with three hits and two runs batted in, while Zoe Purcell also collected three hits. Sophie Purcell and Aisling Wilson added multiple hits in a performance that showed Marlins’ depth. With Marlins producing strong offensive numbers and Martians entering with momentum, the match should be once of the most balanced games of the round. Marlins’ batting depth may give them a slight edge, but if Micke and Kuipers again lead from the front, Martians are more than capable of another upset. In men’s division one on Saturday, Batavia Blaze will face Rams with a grand final spot against Suiside on the line. Blaze boast a dangerous pitching combination in Eli Etherton and Jack Etherton. The pair combined for 15 strikeouts in their most recent outing and will be crucial in controlling the Rams batting . Rams have shown they are capable of grinding out wins and will be eager to capitalise on any scoring opportunities that arise. If Blaze’s pitching unit can keep the Rams hitters quiet, they may hold a slight advantage in a potentially low scoring contest. On Friday night, women’s division two has Blaze meeting Marlins for the chance to progress to the grand final against Suiside, while an all-Rams preliminary final awaits men’s division two, with Rams Blue facing Rams White — the winner advancing to the grand final against Suiside In division three on Saturday, PI’s Panthers play Rams Blue for the final spot up for grabs in the women’s decider against Rams White, while Batavia Blaze will meet Gunduwa to decide who plays Martians in the men’s grand final.
