Ugle Fabrications La Fiamma are double champions in Geraldton women’s soccer after they won the knockout cup.

UF La Fiamma beat Abrolhos FC 1-0 on Saturday, with Sandy Gauci setting up Charli Layton for the only goal.

UF La Fiamma president Mark Gray praised the cup performance after the team had waltzed to the league title, their third in a row, and said it was the best he had seen them play.

Gray said the side had often played with few or no substitutions but had managed to take coaching advice on board and play good soccer throughout the season.

“They thoroughly deserved it for the effort they put in, and the commitment,” he said.

“They listened to the coach and did what was asked.

“They were disciplined, they really had only 12 players for the whole season.

“I think they played probably their best, most tactical football, moving the ball all around, finding space, stretching defences.”

Abrolhos’ Shelby O’Neill was voted most valuable player in the final.

UF La Fiamma were dominant in the league but found the cup tougher going.

They won every game and collected all 45 points available — 17 more than second-placed Chapman. It was their third title in a row. Olivia Bidwell finished the season as top scorer with 30 goals, with UF La Fiamma players making up three of the top five scorers.

UF La Fiamma’s Giorgia Gray, Abrolhos’ Ava Gould and Chapman Athletic’s Monica Sullivan both finished with 11 goals, while Layton had nine.
