Challenge yourself this Shore Leave with TreasureQuest, an Amazing Race-style tactical challenge for all ages

If you’re after a mental challenge or an adrenaline rush, this year’s Shore Leave Festival has just the thing. TreasureQuest, an Amazing Race-style adventure, is coming to Geraldton on Sunday, April 27. Teams of two to five will be given a map and three hours to solve puzzles, complete challenges, and collect as many points as possible — starting at Dome Cafe. Event organiser Joel Savage said success depended on strategy as much as it did on speed. “Each challenge and checkpoint is worth a different amount of points. So the aim of the game, if you’re tactical, is to try to get as many points in as quick a time as possible,” he said. Rather than going for the highest-value challenges, he explained, players might do better to focus on clusters of smaller ones nearby. Originally from Queensland, Mr Savage worked in the fitness industry and was inspired by people who constantly pushed their limits. “There was one lady who would push herself really hard at boot camps and I thought, geez, the rest of us should probably push ourselves a bit harder,” he said. That moment led him to create Adventurethon, a hardcore event involving paddling, running and mountain biking. Wanting something more accessible for all ages and fitness levels, Mr Savage and his team developed TreasureQuest — and decided to bring it to Shore Leave this year. “Having moved to WA, we haven’t really done an event in Geraldton yet, and we knew that this is the type of event that would be really suitable... and fun too,” he said. Mr Savage hopes it adds a fresh, light-hearted energy to the festival. “We just wanted there to be something free, something different... a way of immersing yourself in the whole experience and just having a bit of fun with it.” Find out more on the TreasureQuest website.
