‘Feels good’: Brittany Higgins reveals major next step in career

Brittany Higgins has announced a career pivot four years after resigning her position as a Liberal Party staffer.

Ms Higgins has accepted a role as director of public affairs for boutique public relations agency Third Hemisphere, where her husband David Sharaz has also recently started work.

On LinkedIn, Ms Higgins said she was “so excited” to begin her new role, telling followers the company held “values that aligned with my own”.

“To be in a workplace run by a fellow survivor and someone who fundamentally believes in the importance of corporate social responsibility is an absolute delight,” she wrote.

This is the first professional role Ms Higgins will undertake since leaving her position as a Liberal Party media adviser in 2021, however she has become a prominent advocate for workplace and women’s safety over the last four years.

Ms Higgins told the Australian Financial Review she was ready to take her next steps in her career, adding she was “the most intense person” in previous roles, which saw her become the “first one in and the last one out” of the office.

However, she said, she fully embraced the lack of work-life balance that came with her career, and was excited to get her feet back on the ground.

“To lose that was really quite tough,” she told AFR. “To start to reclaim that sense of identity feels good.”

Ms Higgins and her husband David Sharaz relocated to Melbourne last year after briefly moving to France. They also welcomed a son, Freddie, in early 2025.

Ms Higgins will join the PR agency alongside Mr Sharaz, who was appointed director of Third Hemisphere this year to assist with the agency’s expansion into Melbourne. The agency was founded by Hannah Moreno, who is a rape and domestic violence survivor, and advocate for gender equality and fighting sexual harassment. She told AFR Ms Higgins’ experience with advocacy made her a strong contender in the position.

“As a multiple-time rape survivor myself, I have long admired Brittany’s courage in taking a public stand on her own experiences, and (against) the deeper gender inequities occurring in our highest halls of power,” she told the outlet. In the new role, Ms Higgins will work on strategic advocacy and reputation management with clients, which span non-profit organisations, and women’s support and advocacy groups. She will also oversee stakeholder and media relations, and public affairs events that encourage a dialogue and change.
