A bushfire that was raging in Perth’s southern suburbs on Sunday afternoon has been contained.

DFES issued an update at 4.34pm changing the warning to “stay informed”.

“The alert level for this fire has been downgraded as the bushfire is now contained and controlled,” the warning read.

“There is no threat to lives or homes.”

At 3.11pm on Sunday DFES reissued a warning advising those in the affected area to prepare to leave.

“There is a possible threat to lives and homes as a fire is burning and conditions are changing,” the warning read.

“If your plan is to leave, leave now.”

It is understood the blaze broke out in an area of bushland on Lugg Place in Casuarina shortly before 12.45pm on Sunday.

A spokesperson for the Department of Fire and Emergency Services said it is believed the bushfire had spread to a nearby shed.

Residents in the area bounded by Landgren Road, Mortimer Road, Kwinana Freeway and Orton Road in Casuarina were issued an urgent Watch and Act warning by authorities.
