Wembley Downs man in custody over bomb making materials, also facing threat to kill charge

Police from the bomb response unit have detonated suspicious chemicals considered too dangerous to move from a Wembley Downs home. Police allege that the chemicals were consistent with explosive materials and were found during a raid on Tuesday afternoon, with an elderly man arrested. Francis Kwok Kie Chan is facing a threat to kill charge as well as one count of making or possessing explosives and five relating to firearms and ammunition storage after officers stormed his Stockdale Crescent home. Mr Chan, who is understood be 75, remains behind bars and is due back in court in May. “The chemicals were subsequently identified by ChemCentre as being precursors for lead azide (a compound used inexplosives detonators) and were too volatile to be moved,” police told The Post newspaper.. “TRG Bomb Response Unit officers attended and safely detonated the items.”
