Major crime detectives have welfare concerns for a 33-year-old man connected to an Attadale address which has been searched by police for five days.

Police refused to shed any light on why they were searching the Attadale unit on Money Road this week, before appealing for the public’s help to locate a man connected to the property on Monday.

Jayden Stewart Selfe, 33, is believed to have lost contact with people known to him since early to mid-May this year.

Detectives from the major crime division received information in August that led them to investigate whether his disappearance is suspicious.

A police spokeswoman said detectives recently searched the Money Road property as part of the investigation.

Detectives in suits and forensics have been spotted coming and going from the quiet cul-de-sac unit, about 9km south of Perth’s CBD, at the weekend. Police have been at the unit since Thursday.

The West Australian sent several questions about the circumstances of the investigation to WA Police on Sunday, but was met with a one sentence answer.

“An investigation remains ongoing at this time”.

On Monday, more than two weeks since detectives were passed information about his disappearance, Police Minister Reece Whitby also remained tight-lipped.

“I’m not going to comment on or get involved in an operation,” Mr Whitby said.

“I’m aware that there’s an ongoing live inquiry at that location. The police are engaged in that inquiry, and they will be for and have been for a couple of days, and they’ll continue to.”

When asked about the unprecedented move by the police to operate in secrecy, Mr Whitby added: “I’m not going to get into that.”

He wouldn’t say whether the public had a right to know what was going on but maintained there was no risk to the community.

Police shared an appeal for information into his disappearance just hours after Minister Whitby refused to comment on the investigation.

The lack of information over the very public operation has fanned rumour and speculation online and caused concern for others.

“They won’t tell you, but they beg for the public’s help all the time,” Mark Smith commented on a public social media post asking for information on the incident.

Police are asking for the public’s assistance to help find Mr Selfe, urging anyone with information to contact them on 131 444.

Reports can be made anonymously through Crime Stoppers by calling 1800 333 000 or making a report online.
