Warwick incident: Detectives probing attack on 36-year-old near McDonald’s as two attackers on the run

A man who suffered a traumatic brain injury from a bashing 20-years-ago has been revealed as the victim of an “unprovoked” armed robbery in a Warwick carpark. Detectives are investigating the brutal assault where Daniel Colaizzi, 36, was pulled from his car and attacked by two thugs while he tried to eat McDonald’s about 12.30am on Monday. He told 7NEWS the attack was something “like a horror movie” after his clothes were ripped off and he was slashed with a sharp object. Detective constable Dani Morrision said Mr Colaizzi was in his parked car in Warwick — shortly after he used a McDonald’s drive-through — before two men approached his car. “One of the males pulled the victim from his vehicle and assaulted him repeatedly, while the other male rummaged through his vehicle for valuable items,” Det-Const. Morrision said. “The two males stole the victim’s iPhone, wallet and cash from within the vehicle.” Det-Const. Morrision said that when Daniel tried to run away, he was chased down and attacked with an unknown object which caused a “large” laceration to one of his legs. Mr Colaizzi said that object was a claw hammer. He was treated in hospital, receiving stitches. Following an assault just before his 17th birthday, Mr Colaizzi had metal plates inserted into his skull to protect his brain. “I was like. . . please don’t kick me in the head, please don’t kick me in the head, because that’s what happened last time. . . and then he kicked me in the head,” he told 7NEWS. “The first time I was assaulted they knew me and it was kind of a personal vendetta but this time . . . it was completely random and these people were like from the purge, like a horror movie.” Det-Const. Morrision said a white Jeep Cherokee and a black Nissan Skyline were believed to be in the area at the time, with the two attackers fleeing the scene. Daniel’s mother, Tricia, said her son couldn’t live as a fully-able adult after the first bashing. “My son, they took his life. . . he hasn’t been able to live, or have a house, a family, a job, because of the dysfunction.” Det-Const. Morrision said the two offenders were described as caucasian with blonde hair while the other had olive skin with short dark hair. “It is very concerning, we take these matters very seriously, and that’s why we’re here today seeking assistance from the public so that we can bring justice for the victim. “We would advise the community to remain vigilant, look after your own safety as best as possible, and be aware of your surroundings.” “People should be able to go about their business in a car park no matter what the time of day is,” she said.
