Raymond Reddington: Trial for man accused of murdering Sharon Fulton 40 years ago delayed for chemo treatment

The trial of a man accused of the cold case murder of his wife almost 40 years ago has been delayed until next year as the accused undergoes chemotherapy in hospital. Raymond Reddington, who changed his name from Maxwell Robert Fulton, was due to stand trial next month for the alleged murder of his wife. However the trial has been delayed as it was deemed Mr Reddington’s chemotherapy schedule for cancer would be too disruptive for it to proceed. Mr Reddington was also scheduled to undergo surgery to have parts of his liver and gall bladder removed. Sharon Fulton, a devoted mother of four was aged 39 when last seen around 9.30am on March 18, 1986, leaving the family home on Readshaw Road, Duncraig to drop off their three-year-old son in Wangara. Mr Reddington reported her missing at Warwick Police Station three days later. On Wednesday, Justice Joseph McGrath vacated the trial date and gave orders that the Crown conduct pre-recordings of two elderly witnesses in the event they would not be able to take the stand at a future trial. The court heard Mr Reddington, who is in custody, had been transferred to hospital for treatment. Crown prosecutor Ben Stanwix said as there would now be a lengthy delay for the trial they would not oppose bail for Mr Reddington if it was applied for. Mr Reddington was arrested in October 2023 by cold case detectives over his wife’s death. He pleaded not guilty in April last year. In a bizarre twist, it emerged that Raymond Reddington is the name of the lead character in TV show The Blacklist about a fugitive who turns himself in to the FBI and helps hunt down other wanted criminals. Dr Sharon Fulton, a psychiatrist who evaluates FBI agents to determine if they are fit for duty, is a character in the same TV show.
