Man charged with 13 offences after alleged reckless pursuit that spanned across Perth in stolen car

A 37-year-old man will face court after an extensive and dangerous pursuit across the Perth metropolitan area. Mirrabooka detectives have charged the man with 13 offences after he allegedly stole a Hyundai i40 station wagon earlier this week, and then led police on a reckless chase in it on Thursday. The Grand Theft Auto-style event unfolded after officers allegedly spotted the stolen car travelling on Alexander Drive near Yirrigan Drive in Dianella. They turned their lights and sirens on in an attempt to stop the car but the driver allegedly sped off. Police claim the 37-year-old drove at police cars, mounted footpaths, drove into a garden brick wall of a home and tried to drive through bollards. The pursuit eventually came to a dramatic end after the man crashed on Knutsford Street in Fremantle, where he was taken into custody, police said. Police alleged the car was stolen from a car park of a shopping centre in Mirrabooka on Tuesday. The 37-year-old from Northbridge will face the Perth Magistrates Court on Friday, charged with more than a dozen offences, including reckless driving to escape pursuit by police, property damage, stealing and possession of cannabis.
