Ian Douglas Snelson: Mt Lawley man facing 16 charges related to child exploitation material, drug offences

Detectives have slapped a further seven charges on a man facing serious child exploitation offences. Ian Douglas Snelson is accused of possessing child exploitation material and distributing it online, among a raft of other charges, the latest of which were laid on Friday. The 56-year-old faced Perth Magistrates Court on Friday afternoon over the charges, which now total 16, including nine child exploitation material offences and four drug offences. Mr Snelson appeared via video link from Hakea Prison and nodded to acknowledge he understood the new charges — one of which dates as far back as 2016. He did not enter a plea and was remanded in custody to face court again on August 16 for a bail application. The string of charges came after detectives from the child exploitation operations squad raided Mr Snelson’s Mount Lawley home last Thursday. Police seized mobile phones and electronic devices allegedly belonging to him. “A preliminary analysis of these devices identified the man allegedly utilised various online communication sites to distribute and possess child exploitation material,” a WA Police spokeswoman said.
