Ellenbrook Secondary College: Six teenagers aged between 13 and 16 charged over Perth high school stabbing

Six teenagers have been charged after they allegedly stormed Ellenbrook Secondary College armed with weapons before stabbing a 15-year-old student. The ordeal plunged the secondary school into lockdown after the final bell around 3pm on Monday, leaving students and teachers in hiding as police swarmed the campus. The alleged attackers — who police believe are male teenagers not from the school — allegedly arrived wearing all-black, ski-masks and hoodies. It is alleged they were armed with knives, machetes and an axe. A teenage boy, a student at the college, suffered wounds to his arm and head in the ordeal. Police believe the attack was targeted. On Tuesday, police revealed six teenagers — two 16-year-olds, a 15-year-old, two 14-year-olds and a 13-year-old — had been charged. They are each charged with disorderly behaviour in a public place, being armed in a way that may cause fear, unlawful wounding and assault occasioning bodily harm. One of the juveniles is facing an additional charge of carrying or possessing an edged weapon. Three accused teens will face Perth Children’s Court on Tuesday. Students and staff were leaving for the day when they were forced to flee back to their classroom. It took an hour and 20 minutes for police to declare the scene safe. It is reported about 50 students huddled in the front office watching the attackers on CCTV monitors. The injured boy, who suffered a puncture wound to his bicep, was taken to St John of God Midland hospital under normal road conditions. His injuries are not life-threatening and he was in a stable condition on Monday. The accused attackers fled the scene before they were arrested by police. CCTV shows one young man being arrested in a nearby street after a police officer shouted at him to get on the ground. Several police cars were patrolling around the school grounds on Tuesday morning, while at least one officer was seen entering the office. Security was also deployed by the school as droves of teens returned to the campus. Mother of two daughters, Kajin, who didn’t want her surname used, said her children called her in fear after being locked down on Monday. “They are just kids, you know, they were scared,” she said. “Of course I was scared, I didn’t know what was going to happen to them.” The mother said she was happy with how the school handled the incident considering her daughters were safely locked down. One of her daughters said she was at the bus stop waiting to leave school when staff ordered she returned to the safety of the building on Monday. Deputy Premier Rita Saffioti said she had spoken with the school’s principal after the ordeal. “I have also had discussions with both the Police Minister and the Education Minister,” she said in a post on Facebook. “It appears this was an attempted targeted attack on a student, involving a group from outside of the school. “From all accounts, police responded quickly, and the community acted quickly to provide information to the police that assisted in the arrests of the alleged attackers.” “My thoughts are with the student who was hurt and their family, the students at the College, as well as the teachers and staff who witnessed this attack at the school.” Ms Saffioti said the Education Minister would contact the school as they deal with the aftermath of the alleged attack.
