Byford assault: Man strikes head on pavement after alleged assault, teen charged with grievous bodily harm

A violent brawl outside a southern suburbs fast food restaurant has left a man with critical injuries after he was assaulted, causing him to fall unconscious and strike his head on the ground. Armadale detectives have charged a 19-year-old man with grievous bodily harm over the incident which occurred outside a KFC restaurant on Abernethy Road, Byford, about 9pm on Thursday. Police were initially called to reports of a “disturbance” involving several people before the 28-year-old man was discovered with life-threatening injuries. “During the incident, it will be alleged a man was assaulted, lost consciousness and fell to the ground, striking his head on the pavement,” a police spokesman said. “Emergency services, including St John WA, attended the scene and provided medical treatment to a 28-year-old male who was later conveyed to Royal Perth Hospital with serious, life-threatening injuries.” A Royal Perth Hospital spokesman said the man was in a critical condition on Friday morning. Police arrested his accused attacker at a property in Byford a short time after the assault. He is scheduled to appear in Armadale Magistrates Court on Friday. His bail has been refused. Detectives are continuing to investigate the brawl and urge any witnesses to contact Crime Stoppers. Dash-cam, CCTV or mobile phone footage of the incident is of particular interest to investigators.
