Brett Maston: ‘Australia’s most wanted’ man arrested after allegedly cutting off tracking device

One of Australia’s most notorious armed bandits has been arrested after allegedly cutting off his electronic monitoring device less than a week after he was granted home detention bail.

Police confirmed Brett Maston had been arrested in Kenwick by detectives from the rapid apprehension squad about 5pm on Monday.

It’s understood he was arrested without incident and is being taken to Perth Watch House for processing.

Maston had been given bail after previously being stopped by police in Warwick allegedly carrying a gun, cash and stolen property.

He’s facing three charges over the incident, including one count of possession of stolen or unlawfully obtained property.

The 57-year-old was last seen earlier on Monday about 5.50am in Mt Lawley.

On May 13, he appeared in Perth Magistrates Court via video link from Hakea Prison and was granted home detention bail.

His lawyer, Damien Cripps, said that despite Maston’s substantial criminal record, his new partner, who is herself on a conditional suspended imprisonment order, would keep him on the straight and narrow.

Maston is due back in court to face the three charges on July 3.
