Mindum Alexander Brown: Albany man accused of violent rampage at Centennial Park home and gym charged

An Albany man accused of arming himself and smashing through the front doors of a residential home and an Albany gym, making threats to kill and assaulting multiple people has faced court on a host of charges. Mindum Alexander Brown, 31, appeared before Albany Magistrates Court on Thursday from police custody, charged with 11 offences relating to an incident in Centennial Park on Wednesday morning, as well as a breach of bail undertaking. Police charged Mr Brown with two counts of impeding another person’s normal breathing or blood circulation, three counts of criminal damage, one of being armed in a way that may cause fear, one of aggravated home burglary, two of threats to kill, one of unlawful assault and one of assault occasioning bodily harm from July 30. Defence counsel Raymond Muir asked the court for a four-week adjournment for Mr Brown to receive legal advice. He made no application for bail and Mr Brown will be remanded in custody until his next appearance in the Albany Magistrates Court on August 26. The charges come after Albany detectives were investigating an alleged violent incident that occurred at BodyCare Health Club on the corner of North Road and Lion Street on Wednesday. Police told reporters at the time that at about 10.15am a man allegedly armed with a wooden pole entered a private residence and gymnasium in Centennial Park, where he threatened and assaulted a male staff member, as well as damaging a vehicle in the gym’s car park. Emergency services were called to the scene at 10.23am and transported a man in his 30s to Albany Health Campus, with another male taken to hospital in a private vehicle. A man was taken into custody a short time later by police who swarmed on the scene. The front glass door of BodyCare Health Club was smashed in the incident while a door at a neighbouring home was also severely damaged.
